FAA certification for Boeing 737 Max 8

The Boeing 737 Max 8 has been granted an amended type certificate by the FAA, paving the way for customer deliveries in the coming months. Boeing’s test program started just over a year ago with four aircraft, and also involved ground and laboratory testing.

The single-aisle 737 Max 8 is the first of the 737 Max family to be developed. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2017.

Meanwhile, Boeing has celebrated the rollout of the second member of the family, the 737 Max 9. That aircraft will now start system checks, fueling and engine runs on the flight line, to be followed by flight testing. It is scheduled to enter service in 2018. The smaller Max 7 and higher capacity Max 200 are planned to follow in 2019.
