Out-of-service BBJ 737 given new life by Jet Aviation

Jet Aviation has redelivered a BBJ 737 following a complete refurbishment and scheduled C-1 maintenance inspection. The aircraft had been out of service for a number of years but had low mileage when it was sold to the new owner, who opted for various updates.

As well as a new livery, the aircraft has new seats, sidewalls and carpets. Some marquetry – for example, the valances – was replaced. The refurbishment did not require structural changes. Jet Aviation also installed Rockwell Collins’s Venue CMS, activated SwiftBroadband, upgraded to the Future Aircraft Navigation System, configured ADS- B Out and implemented service bulletins including a low cabin altitude modification. Soundproofing was improved using the company’s new targeted sound prediction technology.

“Industry standards and systems capabilities have risen over the years,” said Estelle Thorin, director of large aircraft maintenance at Jet Aviation. “Customers want all the same bells and whistles in their aircraft that they’re accustomed to at home, and we at Jet Aviation work closely with all the vendors to ensure they receive the best and latest solutions on the market. Our improved soundproofing technology, for example, uses high-performing materials we did not have 20 years ago.”

It was not the aircraft’s first visit to Jet Aviation – it was outfitted there in 1999; in fact it was the company’s first BBJ completions contract.

“As an old aircraft with old documentation, it was a challenging project that’s produced terrific results,” said Simon Koenig, supervisor of maintenance interior design at Jet Aviation in Basel, Switzerland.
