RUAG and Happy Design Studio team up for Global Express XRS repaint

A Bombardier Global Express XRS has been repainted by RUAG Aviation in Munich, Germany, for returning customer SBK Holding.

The Carboneum design by Didier Wolff, designer and founder of Happy Design Studio, was inspired by the patterns of fiber-reinforced materials including carbon and honeycomb structures. RUAG also performed a scheduled 15-month inspection on the eight-year-old aircraft.

SBK Holding opted for the complex full repaint shortly before the aircraft arrived at RUAG. Despite the project expanding to involve more suppliers and workhours, it was completed on time. Templates were created digitally to achieve a honeycomb effect on the engines. The project involved blending 150 liters of dark gray mica-metallic paint.

“RUAG Aviation’s craftsmanship and painstaking attention to every detail allowed them to accurately reproduce my design, especially the intricate honeycomb effect on the engines and the carbon fiber weave pattern on the tail,” said Didier Wolff, designer and founder, Happy Design Studio.

“Hand-painting this particular detail, while time-intensive, ideally captures the innovative beauty of the design, as well as ensures improved durability, over and above the preprinted adhesive foils generally used within the industry.”

“We chose RUAG Aviation as our partner because they have continuously proven to be a reliable and trustworthy partner in the support of our aircraft and any necessary service it requires,” said Kemal Pehlivan, marketing manager, SBK Holding. “They have again proven their excellent reputation for guaranteed, reliable one-stop shop solutions, including premium-quality aircraft painting.”
