First Honeywell JetWave Ka-band installation for Flying Colours Corp

Flying Colours Corp (FCC) has installed its first Honeywell JetWave Ka-band satcom system, as part of the refurbishment of a Bombardier Global Express at the company’s facility in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

FCC was tasked with a pre-buy review, maintenance inspections, full interior and exterior refurbishment, including modifying the floorplan, and IFE upgrades. The satcom upgrade involved attaching LRUs, a radome and a tail-mounted antenna. The refurbishment should be finished by the end of July 2017.

“Our customer travels extensively for business and needs uninterrupted connectivity globally,” said Eric Gillespie, executive vice president, FCC. “We advised him to install the Honeywell system as it gives him flexible, high-speed and modern technology, that will fulfill his need to be continuously connected.”

The satcom system uses Inmarsat’s Global Xpress (GX) Aviation service. It supports live TV and video streaming on multiple devices, as well as wi-fi-enabled email, web browsing, video conferencing, data file transfers and voice and text capabilities.

“We are pleased to be able to maximize our status as a Bombardier authorized service facility to offer and fit these state-of-the-art avionics systems,” said Gillespie. “As an increasing number of owners of mid- to long-range aircraft want to upgrade their connectivity, we are well-positioned to provide the service through our in-house avionics experience and knowledge.”
