Gogo unveils broadband system suitable for any business aircraft

Gogo Business Aviation has unveiled an inflight connectivity system optimized in terms of weight, size and cost, making it particularly suitable for smaller aircraft such as turboprops and light jets – although it can be used on business aircraft of any type and size. Shipments of Gogo Avance L3 should begin in the first quarter of 2018. It integrates with many CMS types.

Passengers will be able to email, text and make voice calls with Gogo Text & Talk (a service plan is required); use moving map, weather and flight information apps; and enjoy IFE content using Gogo Vision (a service plan is required). Customers can also opt to connect to the Gogo Biz data network for full 3G internet connectivity over the USA and parts of Canada and Alaska.

There are three service offerings: ‘Core’, available through hourly and monthly service plans, delivers email, voice and light internet browsing for up to five devices; ‘Plus’, a monthy plan, gives full internet connectivity and email for up to seven devices; the ‘Max’ monthly plan expands the Plus offering to 25 devices.

“We designed Avance L3 to provide a robust, high-performance wi-fi experience at an affordable price that gives customers the flexibility to add or reduce system capabilities as their business needs evolve,” said Mike Syverson, senior vice president of development for Gogo Business Aviation. “Avance L3 gives the ability to move seamlessly to different service offerings without being constrained by the hardware.”

The system features 802.11ac dual-band (2.4GHz and 5.0GHz) for better wi-fi performance, multi-bearer data and voice management and a 4G/LTE terrestrial modem – enabling free internet on the ground in certain countries. Gogo is also offering remote diagnostics and service activations.
