Skandia flammability laboratory earns additional approvals from Airbus

Skandia has added to its flammability engineering and lab testing approval, granted by Airbus in 2015, with the authorization to engineer and burn cabin materials to test for heat release, smoke density and toxicity. Skandia’s systems, equipment, engineering test planning and processes were analyzed in an extensive on-site review.

“Airbus is a company that demands exceptional quality from its vendors and suppliers, and we expected the process to be rigorous and thorough,” said Jarod Triplett, vice president at Skandia.

“Flammability safety is an area that can’t be compromised. Our engineering and leadership team approached this project knowing it would be tough, but the results for Airbus, its suppliers and ultimately passenger safety make the effort worthwhile.

“Adding Skandia as a supplier for testing this area of flammability criteria gives Airbus confidence in using our team and provides a greater level of convenience for all of Airbus’s cabin material suppliers.”

Skandia says the move brings greater efficiency to the process of approval and acceptance of product qualification.
