The final version of the VIP aircraft cabin designed by Lufthansa Technik and Mercedes-Benz Style was presented to the public for the first time at the Monaco Yacht Show 2016, which was held from September 28 to October 1. A virtual 3D presentation, a scaled physical 3D model and material samples were used to showcase the cabin. Lufthansa Technik’s VIP & Special Mission Aircraft Services division offers the design for private Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
“With the yacht and the aircraft cabin we have transferred our philosophy of sensual purity to ship and aircraft design,” said Gorden Wagener, head of design at Daimler. “The creation was an inspiring challenge and we have created products that reveal a perfect contemporary luxury – hot and cool.”
“It is a great pleasure to present the new Mercedes-Benz Style cabin to our customers, who want to see state-of-the-art designs for their private jets,” said Wieland Timm, vice president of sales, VIP & Special Mission Aircraft, Lufthansa Technik. “The two companies combine top design excellence with top technical expertise and therefore have been able to realize a unique aircraft cabin. The cooperation with Daimler allows us to present design concepts that will give our clients the peace of mind to invest in an iconic design without equal in the market.”
The front of the aircraft has an open entrance area, a galley, a separate room and a VIP lavatory. In the aft, an entertainment zone has been combined with the en-suite private area. The open design of the bathroom and bedroom is conceived around a free-standing shower with transparent sidewalls. The king-size bed is highlighted by the concave and upholstered head wall.
The cabin’s central design theme is its helix structure, which extends from the entrance all the way to the bedroom. This creates zones without the typical arrangement of lining and wall elements. The aircraft could seat 150 passengers in airline configuration; this design seats 16 VIP passengers.
Both companies have been working on the concept since the announcement of the cooperation at EBACE 2015. Led by Lufthansa Technik’s engineering team, the designers have updated the initial design concept in line with airworthiness and certification requirements.
