The Embraer Legacy 450 has received certification for an extended range of 2,904 nautical miles. The improvement was approved by Brazil’s ANAC, the FAA and the EASA. The new range, taking into account four passengers plus reserves, is 329 nautical miles more than the current certified range.
The increased range was certified after minor modifications to the wing to accommodate more fuel, along with updates to the fuel control unit and avionics. The extra fuel tank capacity can be retrofitted at no cost for the first aircraft serial numbers. The first aircraft with the increased range is scheduled for delivery in July 2016.
The Legacy 450 is a mid-light business jet with a 6ft-tall flat-floor cabin. Four fully reclining club seats may be berthed into two beds. Other highlights include a 6,000ft cabin altitude, a refreshment center at the entrance, a rear private lavatory with a vacuum toilet and an inflight-accessible baggage area. The optional IFE system consists of an HD video system, surround sound and multiple audio and video input options. Voice and data communications options are also available.
In other news, AirSprint, a privately held fractional aircraft ownership company based in Calgary (Alberta, Canada), has signed a purchase agreement for up to 12 Embraer Legacy 450s. Deliveries to AirSprint will begin as soon as the aircraft is awarded type certification by Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA). The agreement consists of two firm orders, with expected delivery in the fourth quarter of 2016, and 10 purchase options with initial delivery dates starting in the first quarter of 2017. This agreement has an estimated value of US$198m at the current list price, if all options are exercised.
