After conducting preliminary studies together with the company hs2 engineering, Lufthansa Technik has developed and filed a patent application for a prototype of an induction cooking platform for aircraft. The equipment can be seen at Aircraft Interior Expo, which is held in Hamburg, Germany, on April 5-7, 2016. The product is a finalist for a Crystal Cabin Award.
The induction cooking platform’s dimensions are 287 x 570 x 269mm (ARINC Size 4) and it weighs 13.5kg. It is being presented as an all-in-one solution, including power unit, exhaust fan and a special cover, designed to ensure that pots and pans remain in place during turbulence.
“There are a number of applications that enable not only cooking with pots and pans, but also the use of a special rice cooker with different settings, and a toaster,” said Franziska Voerner, lead project manager for Original Equipment Innovation at Lufthansa Technik.
Talks are underway with potential customers, flight attendants and chefs to gauge market requirements and modify the solution to fit them.
