The interior workshops of Lufthansa Technik Base Maintenance in Hamburg, Germany, are entering into the business of contract manufacturing of cabin elements for large aircraft manufacturers.
“More and more suppliers are reaching the limits of their capacities against the backdrop of the strong growth in production rates at aircraft manufacturers,” said Arne Bruhn, head of interior workshops at Lufthansa Technik Base Maintenance. “We have a history of being able to help spontaneously during production peaks or problems with production management. Now we want to do so professionally. With our long experience as a service provider, we possess know-how that is unrivaled in the market and the greatest possible flexibility in the modification of existing aircraft cabins. It allows us to produce anything from single prototypes up to large quantities.”
A team of more than 200 people already provide single-source modification services for commercial airlines, including the modification of existing cabin components. At present, the team is producing components on a large-scale for economy cabins that are switching from central to seat-based entertainment systems. This modification involves extensive structural work and completely new cabling.
