Dassault Systèmes, the provider of 3D design software, 3D digital mock-up and product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions including the 3DExperience platform, has launched its latest industry solution experience for aerospace and defense – Build to Operate.
OEMs and large suppliers can increase the efficiency and quality of their programs with the 3DExperience platform’s global digital manufacturing operations management capabilities.
A current global aviation build cycle is well underway due to aircraft modernization and the retirement of thousands of aircraft over the next decade. In meeting this growth, OEMs and large suppliers strive to implement lean practices that improve program performance and equip their manufacturing operations to quickly reach full manufacturing rate.
Based on Dassault Systèmes’ 3DExperience platform, the Build to Operate industry solution experience offers OEMs and large suppliers the ability to monitor, control and validate all aspects of manufacturing operations – ranging from replicable processes and production sequences, to the flow of deliverables throughout their supply chain – on a global scale.
“Instant visibility on all levels of productivity – plant, line, station, cell and individual – is a critical enabler to continuous improvement, and Build to Operate brings this capability to existing production lines and accelerates the ramp-up of new lines to reach optimal rate,” said Michel Tellier, vice president, aerospace and defense industry, Dassault Systèmes.
“Aerospace companies implementing this ‘factory of the future’ today can expect benefits that include as much as a 25 percent reduction in errors, 20 percent less waste and up to a 15 percent improvement in first-time quality.”
The Build to Operate solution enables: closed-loop visibility of all manufacturing operations, to assess risks and implement mitigation procedures; global deployment of lean manufacturing processes, including line automation performance and failure information that can be reviewed in a virtual “replay” and analytics environment; the implementation of resulting improvements globally across all sites; access to real-time KPIs and analytics of warehouse, production and quality data across the extended enterprise; shop-floor data monitoring that detects quality risks in real time and proactively prevents scrap and rework, as well as identifying root causes to prevent composite or additive manufacturing defects; and real-time traceability of supplier data, enabling quick containment and disposition of quality issues and controlled flow of deliverables that minimize the risks of installing defective components and of incomplete deliveries.
“We adopted Dassault Systèmes’ Build to Operate industry solution experience to improve manufacturing execution for our existing and future helicopter programs,” said Jean-Luc Sturlèse, vice president, production flows management, Airbus Helicopters.
“By tightly unifying engineering with our change management process, and by implementing lean processes like just-in-time processing and paperless manufacturing, we aim to improve quality and accelerate production while lowering program costs.”
