A head-of-state A320 is due to arrive at AMAC Aerospace’s facility in Basel, Switzerland, in October 2018 for a C-check and upgrades. The IFE will be upgraded to enable streaming of HD content to passengers’ PEDs. AMAC will also install a Ka-band system to enable broadband connectivity.
AMAC says the addition of the A320 type to its portfolio of Ka-band STCs will provide an economical advantage for other A320 owners and operators interested in such installations.
The company also secured the contract to perform major base maintenance on an A340-600 owned by an existing, private customer. The work will include a C-check, landing gear overhaul and a major cabin removal. AMAC will also carry out a mandatory fuel tank inerting system (FTIS) installation, according to Airbus’s service bulletins (SB).
The FTIS is designed to improve safety by reducing the volatility of the ullage, or air volume above the fuel, in an aircraft fuel tank. As fuel is consumed during flight, the fuel level in the tank is lowered and the remaining oxygen in the ullage is replaced by non-flammable inert gas. The FTIS technology includes membrane gas separators, designed to reduce the oxygen concentration on the air entering the fuel tank.
“Having performed FTIS installations on a number of narrow- and wide-body Airbus aircraft, we have extensive experience and know-how and are happy to demonstrate this to our esteemed A340-600 customer,” said Eric Hoegen, director of completion sales and key account management at AMAC Aerospace.
