Jet Aviation has held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new 8,700m² hangar being built at its site in Basel, Switzerland, which when opened will significantly boost its ability to meet rising demand for VIP completions, maintenance and RMU services, particularly for wide-body aircraft.
The new facility will be able to accommodate various wide- and narrow-body aircraft simultaneously, including the Boeing 747. It is scheduled to begin operations at the end of 2018.
As well as an extra 4,550m² of hangar space, the project includes adding 2,000m² for workshops and offices and extending the tarmac by 5,000m².
Jet Aviation is leasing extra hangar and interiors workshop space to maintain its capacity and capabilities throughout the project.
“We have a long history of handling major modifications and completions at Jet Aviation, and we are fully committed to investing in the latest technologies that support the highest quality and safety standards for our customers worldwide,” said Rob Smith (above, left), president of the Jet Aviation Group.
“This investment also reinforces our commitment to Basel – our home base. We will create new jobs for the local community and help to further strengthen Basel as a hub for European aviation.”
