Greenpoint Technologies has installed Ku-band antenna provisions for inflight connectivity on a BBJ 787-8. The company is scheduled to install another Ku-band antenna on it second BBJ 787-8 in November 2015.
“The composite fuselage designed by Boeing for the 787 presents many new challenges to those who primarily work with traditional aluminum skinned aircraft,” said Bruce Kay, vice president of engineering at Greenpoint. “There is a steep learning curve to understand the complexities of the new composite material, including processes for penetration, bonding, and the need for specialized tooling; all of which are taken for granted with standard aluminum skins.”
Greenpoint is offering the provisions installation, based on the 787-8 Ku-Band antenna Boeing Service Bulletin, to modification centers around the world.
