Lufthansa Technik has announced a high-definition (HD) video system upgrade for the Challenger 300. The update is designed specifically to integrate with the current nice system and existing Ethernet backbone. It provides support for the latest consumer interfaces and HD digital video streaming on the nice network. The package increases the current video source selection from one standard-definition DVD to three HD sources (Blu-ray, USB and HDMI) with an AVOD fourth source coming free-of-charge in the first quarter of 2016 (enabled by field-loadable software).
The upgrade is certified by a Bombardier Business Aircraft Service Bulletin and can be installed at any of Bombardier’s seven service centers. Lufthansa Technik says the upgrade requires limited wiring and hardware changes. Wiring changes consist of the addition of the HDMI, USB and Ethernet ports. All wiring is contained within a wardrobe closet and removal of the wardrobe is not required to facilitate the installation.
Lufthansa Technik says the upgrade includes two 20in HD smart displays with internal decoding for a noise-free high-resolution picture; a media center unit including the Blu-ray player and AVOD server hardware; a USB media port for media playback on the forward and aft displays; an HDMI interface for consumer device connection to the forward display; upgrade software compatible with industry-standard audio and video formats (including, but not limited to, .mp4, .mov and .wmv); a software update and color graphical user interface; and from the first quarter of 2016, AVOD server software that will allow stored content to be individually streamed and controlled on the network to the forward and aft displays.
