AMAC Aerospace has signed a new contract to conduct a full refurbishment and maintenance on a B747-8i operated by a head of state.
The work entails a full refurbishment and some partial redesign of all zones. A variety of design options were created for the client to choose from, all by AMAC Aerospace’s in-house interior design department.
AMAC Aerospace said the downtime for this project will be approximately three years at its facility in Basel, Switzerland.
The aircraft will undergo several checks – A3/1B/2B/1C/3C – during the refurbishment programme. Special attention will be given to storage and de-storage of the aircraft during the long downtime. Prolonged parking maintenance will be undertaken, including periodic inspections and a cabin storage programme involving special preservation practices during maintenance activities.
Seating will be analysed and redesigned to increase comfort and reduce vibrations. There will be a new medical theatre room – all the medical equipment will be replaced with new products and equipment. The aircraft will also feature a new Ka-band satcom system (AMAC STC) and new CMS/IFE, among other things. On the upper deck, some seats will be eliminated to offer more space and reduce the cabin weight while improving functionality, the company shared.
