Work will begin in August 2017 on the construction of a new 8,700m² wide-body hangar at Jet Aviation’s facility in Basel, Switzerland. The hangar will replace two of the facility’s existing hangars, adding 4,550m² of hangar space, 2,000m² of shops and offices and 5,000m² of ramp space. The build should be complete by the Q4 2018.
The company says the move is being made to meet “rising demand” for completions, maintenance and RMU services, particularly for wide-body aircraft. The hangar will accommodate various wide- and narrow-body aircraft simultaneously, catering for projects up to the Boeing 747.
Extra hangar and shop space has been leased to enable Jet Aviation to maintain its capacity throughout the build.
“This significant investment in new infrastructure is a clear demonstration of Jet Aviation’s commitment to meeting customer needs around the world,” said Neil Boyle, senior vice president of completions and general manager of the Basel site.
“It will enable us to be more flexible in scheduling current and future workloads to satisfy the expectations of our clients.”
