Microban International and Coatings Tech have collaborated to develop a new coating incorporating built-in antibacterial technology powered by Microban, which can be used for metallic, glass reinforced plastic (GRP) and powder-coated and plastic surfaces. The companies note it is suitable for use in the transportation sector.
Cotech Bio Safe incorporates built-in Microban silver technology that is designed to continually inhibit surface growth of bacteria by disrupting the vital life processes and biological functions that enable growth and reproduction, causing them to die. The companies say it is up to 99.9% resistant to bacterial growth.
The anti-fingerprint coating was developed to keep surfaces hygienically cleaner and fresher in between cleaning. It is intended to make cleaning easier, while helping to optimise material protection, sustainability and performance for years of low maintenance.
The companies say Cotech Bio Safe measures as H9 for hardness, making it more durable than granite and resistant to scuffing, and that it protect surfaces from UV degradation and discolouration.
“The inclusion of Microban technology in Cotech Bio Safe will enable Coatings Tech to provide antibacterial protection for a wide range of metal surfaces used in transportation, commercial spaces and a range of hygiene-critical environments,” said Darrell Taylor, EMEA key account manager at Microban.
