Responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, Spanish tannery Tenerias Omega has gained the anti-viral ISO 21702 certificate for the two anti-bacterial leather ranges it unveiled in June 2020. Fresco and Rocket are suitable for private and commercial aviation applications, as well as for use in the hospitality and contract furnishing markets.
Both articles have been developed by an experienced team of leather technicians at the tannery, through exhaustive testing and research on real leather. The exclusive formulation incorporates coatings at different stages of production. The company explains this ensures high safety standards by preventing bacteria from penetrating the leather, and that it reduces the presence of viruses and bacteria on surfaces to almost zero.
The ranges have been tested according to the UNE-EN ISO 16187 norm to assess antibacterial activity, and the ISO 21702: 2019 method to assess anti-viral activity.
The products do not contain chlorine or bleach. The treatment can be applied to almost all leather types currently offered by Tenerias Omega, for applications including furniture for high-traffic areas, and private and commercial aviation.
“This new and revolutionary antibacterial range – developed and designed entirely within the tannery – is intended to help restore human confidence in air travel and public areas such as hotels and restaurants,” said Alberto Navarro, general manager of Tenerias Omega. “This new development is the pinnacle of important efforts and investments made in the research and development area, which is one of our main pillars, balancing high-performance materials with sustainability, resulting in safe and sustainable products.”
