Astronics PGA plans to showcase a new VIP IFEC product at EBACE 2018, to be held on May 29-31 in Geneva, Switzerland. As well as offering phone functionalities, the Smart Wireless Handset can be used as a control unit for IFE and cabin elements such as lighting and seats.
As a phone, the handset enables passengers to make and receive calls from anywhere in the world, as well as to embed contacts. The onboard wireless system enables voice and video calling as well as internet access. The handset notifies users of incoming calls and text messages when docked, through an illuminated color transition. The included docking station uses wireless Qi technology to charge the handset.
Passengers can also use the unit to manage cabin devices and the IFE system, as well as to access information such as flight time and weather details.
Aesthetic options for the handset include leather, carbon, jeweled and wood finishes.
