Innovative Advantage (IA) is adding video-gaming capabilities to its Audio, Video, and Data Distribution System (AVDS), for all business aircraft platforms.
The company said the increased availability of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, providing low-latency connections to equipped aircraft, is turning the idea of online gaming into a reality in the sky. To complement this fast internet connection, gamers need an IFE system that can provide a lag-free experience from controller to monitor.
The AVDS System provides this solution, IA noted, featuring distributed architecture with a fibre optic backbone that provides an ultra-low-latency solution for all audio and video connections between gaming consoles, and the cabin entertainment system.
“AVDS Videogaming is the gamer’s audio/video backbone,” said Greg Cornell, president at IA. “We distribute all our video raw, and any processing required is done with high-end FPGA solutions developed in-house by our Kirkland (WA)-based engineering team. This means the absolute highest video quality, and none of the latency or lip-sync issues that you’d have with other architectures. Nothing but pure, beautiful 4Kp60 HDR video and uncompressed surround-sound audio.”
“There has never been a better time to be a gamer at 50,000ft,” Cornell added. “With the growing availability of ultra-low-latency, high-bandwidth LEO and ATG systems, inflight online gaming is a new reality.”
