Satcom Direct displayed a gold version of its Satcom Direct Router (SDR) at the 2015 Dubai Air Show, which was held in Dubai, UAE, on November 8-12. Satcom Direct says the SDR weighs less than 10 lb and offers a suite of inflight connectivity enhancements including GlobalVT, SkyBond and Jet ConneX.
The GlobalVT service works through the onboard router, enabling passengers to use their own personal smartphone and number to make and receive calls and send and receive messages using their own contacts, while clearly displaying caller identity. All these functions work at any altitude, anywhere in the world.
Satcom Direct says SkyBond facilitates fast inflight data speeds enabling passengers to stream videos and music or use video conferencing; and that the router can also integrate with any satcom system to enhance cabin communications, CMS, inflight data collection and flight tracking.
The SDR already interfaces with existing networks, and has been designed to work with future networks including Inmarsat’s latest Ka-band Global Xpress satellite communications service for business aviation, Jet ConneX. The Jet ConneX platform enables a number of functions including Satcom Direct’s private network services.
