Lufthansa Technik has won two Red Dot Design Awards for its product designs. The Omni-Fi sound experience is among the winners in the Best of the Best: Design Concept category. Meanwhile the CelestialStar VIP design concept for the BBJ 777-9 was awarded in the Product Design category in this year’s design competition. The official award ceremony will be held in Singapore in October.
The CelestialStar VIP design for the BBJ 777-9 prioritises versatility and multifunctionality. It is designed to maximise space and comfort, and incorporates traditional elements of Middle Eastern cultural heritage with a modern twist. A special light and window shade concept has been implemented throughout the cabin to give passengers the feeling of being in their personal living room rather than on an aircraft.
Meanwhile the Omni-Fi speakers are designed to offer a fully invisible sound experience for various installation positions in both VIP and business jet cabins. Lufthansa Technik shared that Omni-Fi’s exclusively licensed Ring-mode Converter/Transducer technology enables an extremely sleek design that does not compromise on sound quality thanks to optimal omnidirectional dispersion. The company said this provides an immersive listening experience, and also opens up new freedom for cabin designers, because of the installation depth of less than 20mm and a weight of less than 300g (<0.6lb). Lufthansa Technik added that compared with classically implemented cabin speaker systems, Omni-Fi saves up to 50% weight.
“The Red Dot Design Award is one of the world’s most renowned design competitions and honours the best in design and business,” said Andrew Muirhead, vice president, OEM and engineering services, and head of the Original Equipment & Special Aircraft Services segment at Lufthansa Technik. “We feel very honoured that we were able to convince the jury with two of our outstanding products. Winning these awards not only signifies the highest level of design expertise, but also underscores our company’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and quality in product design and sets a benchmark for future innovations.”
