A natural leather has been launched with built-in antimicrobial technology, through the partnership of Muirhead and Polygiene. The companies said Muirhead Active Hygiene Leather with Polygiene ViralOff can help create safer cabin environments in the aviation, bus, coach and rail sectors, reassuring passengers.
Muirhead specialises in creating sustainable and high-performance leather for seat covers. Polygiene ViralOff is permanently integrated into the leather during the production process. In addition to breaking down bacteria that cause odours, ViralOff is designed to break down viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19, to over 99% within two hours (against tested viruses SARS-CoV-2, H3N2 and H1N1, according to the ISO18184:2019 standard). Polygiene ViralOff does not prevent diseases but protects the treated material.
“We are pleased to offer Muirhead Active Hygiene Leather with Polygiene ViralOff to take seat hygiene to a new level and play a key role in setting new standards in cabin wellness,” said Archie Browning, sales director at Muirhead. “The team at Muirhead are working closely with airlines, design studios and aircraft manufacturers to create interiors solutions for the future of travel and transportation.”
“Muirhead is a leading supplier of fine Scottish leather to the global aviation industry with a strong reputation for responsible innovation, durability and circular manufacturing,” said Ulrika Björk, CEO of Polygiene. “It is inspiring how they lead the way for sustainability in the leather industry, just as we at Polygiene lead the way for sustainability in the textile and fashion industry through our antimicrobial and odour-removal products. We are looking forward to adding value to this industry together with Muirhead.”
